"THE LINUX PROJECT"

The Goal of the LINUX project is to provide students with the skills
they need for today's high-tech society, without using the high-cost
proprietary software. We offer training and support for teachers and students
in how they can use computers and the Internet in their daily lives.  Using
robust, low cost, easy to use GNU/LINUX software will enable students to
learn word processing, research, finances, graphic arts, computer
programming, and many other technical skills they may need. LINUX also offers
educational programs for all subject areas and grade levels. (See attached
listing of educational programs.)
GNU/LINUX is a combination of several projects that provide a full
software package for PC and Macintosh Computers at no charge to the user.
This software is created by volunteers and is given away in order to allow
others to contribute bug fixes and new features.  No compensation is required
and as many copies may be made and distributed as desired.  GNU/LINUX is
advancing quickly and well supported. IBM as pledged to provide $1 billion a
year to its development. They have ported GNU/LINUX so that it not only runs
on their PC’s but also on their Mainframes.  GNU/LINUX is secure.  It is so
secure that the National Security Agency uses it on their computers.  The NSA
also gave GNU/LINUX their highest rating in security. The NSA has helped
bring in new security features into the operating system.  The system comes
with many built-in tools to allow tight and flexible system security. With
GNU/LINUX there are no viruses as the system provides strong user-level
controls. (See attached articles and web sites about LINUX)
GNU/LINUX has been used in schools since its inception and has many
programs made to handle the tasks needed by teachers and students. The Beacon
School in Manhattan is a very excellent example. (See attached listing of
participating schools)

GNU/LINUX can run on the computers you already have, even older hardware.
You wont have to spend money on new computers.  You may need to buy more
compatible parts such as(                             ). These possible part
costs are minimal compared to buying new computers.
