Re: SEUL: ezppp sucks rocks
Well, actually, all the "control-panel" does is call a python script named
netcfg. netcfg then has various sub-sections for network interfaces
(nicely done, I'll grant). I do have one major complaint with it, though:
it doesn't necessarily give valid information, eg. it may think that your
PPP link is up when it isn't. Or, worse yet, if (like I do) you've got a
small network in your house, and you've got netcfg running from more than
one computer, only the computer that brings up the PPP connection can
bring it down. Though the OTHER computer THINKS it can. *sigh* Might
poke at the code some; Python's reasonably friendly. Nevertheless, in
terms of one-user, newbie-type use, I think it does a remarkably good job,
and should probably be at least considered as "the" PPP client for SEUL
purposes. Remember, all -- there's ALWAYS going to be a "better" way to
do something, but we've also got to make it nice 'n easy if we want to
make true inroads into the "Joe User" market. The True Way will always be
there, lying underneath, if/when they feel curious.
My $.000002 worth,
Ken
