#8713: atlas.torproject.org search 'Backend error!' for all searches

I try to load "https://atlas.torproject.org/#search/chaos", by bookmark,
or by visiting "https://atlas.torproject.org/" and typing 'chaos' in the
search box (which goes to the previous URL).
Atlas says:
"Backend error!
The backend server replied with an error to your query. This probably
means that you did not properly format your query. If your query was
properly formatted it may mean that there is an issue with your browser
/add-ons. Please report which browser/addons/etc. you're using to the bug
tracker."
Browsers have no add-ons (the statement about a search error like this
possibly being an issue with browser seems to be a misdirection). Browser
is OmniWeb 5 (Apple webkit), Safari 5.1.8 (Apple webkit), both on Mac OS
10.6.8. Same page source is seen when visiting the search URL with wget
or curl.
