True... but in this case I happen to know that his particular relay has
had a DirPort open for months, and began hosting a hidden service/relaying
local network traffic around Apr-7. The divergence of read/write bytes is
pretty obvious at that point. Prior to that date there is only a slight
bias to more write traffic. Accepting that other directory caches might
have a more pronounced bias, I still believe the attack I describe would
be successful, as the attacker could create a divergence pattern that
would be otherwise unlikely. It would of course require testing to
confirm.
