 I set

 {{{
 HeartbeatPeriod 10 minutes
 }}}

 and restarted Tor which told me:
 {{{
 HeartbeatPeriod option is too short; raising to 1800 seconds.
 }}}

 Currently the manpage doesn't say anything about a minimal period. I'd
 suggest adding a sentence which informs the user about the minimum value.
