Travis doesn't have 32 bit machines yet:
https://github.com/travis-ci/travis-ci/issues/986
We could do a 32-bit build and test on 64-bit macOS, but we don't use
macOS on Travis because it's slow.
(Homebrew also doesn't support 32-bit libraries on macOS, so we'd have to
install them through MacPorts, which is slow.)
I'm not sure if there is a similar option for Linux.
