Comment (by toralf):

 I cherrypicked commit 0d64bafcf and applied it at the affected Tor relay
 running 0.4.2.5 (hardened Gentoo Linux).

 It seems to work, Tor starts for both relays and and even more survives a
 change in a config file located under /etc/tor/torrc.d/.
