Hi, first bug report, hopefully not a complete POS.
A couple days ago I subscribed to torweather for my no-exit relay which
hibernates daily for a good chunk of the day (~12 hours). I set the
"notify when down" in torweather to 2 hours. I received a "node down"
email yesterday and today.
Seems like what is (likely) happening is my descriptors are only
cosmetically different, then they're not accepted into the consensus, so
the hibernating flag is not seen by torweather, and torweather
subsequently thinks my node is down. (The reason I say my relay is indeed
hibernating is I see a "Configured Hibernation" notice in the tor logs.
My node does show up in metrics.torproject.org, but only in the consensus
until my node hibernates.)
I suspect this is likely related to #2479 (on increasing leniency for
changed descriptors).
Maybe the solution is a note on torweather that tells node operators that
do daily accounting not to choose a time interval for "notify when node
down" less than a day?
