Re: Multiplication and Division with Integers
Why do multiplication and division with integers not respect the
natural 'Universal Law' with respect to 'truth' and other functions within
mathematical equations? Their form is held in place, static with other
equations, they are restrained with "rules" and manipulated to conform and
are stagnant.
When questioned instructors have said they were "not sure why
Integers have these rules", ...”it is a rule they learned, they are not
sure why...” and it is an '"International Agreement” and not necessarily
correct though understood". They have referred me elsewhere...
Multiplication and division does not respect the "value" of the
negative and positive symbols or the signs as do with addition and
subtraction. They are contained with superficial "Rules" when they could
function with relation to other equations. It should have continuity with
addition and subtraction rules having relevance with the placement of the
numbers and the symbols. What is concerning is that these Integers'
formula go on into other equations such as Algebra etc. and it is not in
'harmony ' with other mathematical systems and in the building blocks of
the whole mathematical puzzle.
It should be...
Multiplication and Division with Zero:
1x0=1 1%0=1
0x1=0 0%1=0
Multiplication:
-1x-1=-1
-1x+1=-1
+1x-1=+1
+1x+1=+1
Division:
-1%-1=+1
-1%+1=+1
+1%-1=-1
+1%+1=+1
