Comment:

 The problem you are having is that Vidalia runs Tor with the configuration
 you've set through Vidalia, it doesn't just run "tor.exe".

 If you want to have a more in-depth knowledge about Tor, I encourage you
 to read the documentation and build your torrc file that you can pass to a
 Tor instance. Otherwise, you should keep running Vidalia.
