 At least a couple times now people have been confused because a descriptor
 module's parse_file() function chokes on a @type annotation.

 I really didn't intend for folks to use parse_file() as they are, but
 since this seems to be a common gotcha we should probably account for the
 annotation (and change to docs to emphasize the DescriptorReader).
