The motivation was to make the example torrcs as consistent as possible
and ensure they'd work out-of-the-box for everyone.
If you have taken the time to verify that 443 works OOTB for a couple
distros, then I think my torrc changes should be reverted. (And thanks for
putting in that work!)
I think 9001 should be mentioned _somewhere_ as a commonly used
unprivileged port, especially if it is used in example torrcs.
