metrics-lib, or does that not really matter?

Whatever depends on metrics-lib needs to upgrade before using a metrics-
lib java 8 version.
Thus, if there are other important changes we're forced to upgrade or
back-port changes.
First upgrading the depending projects is less pressure as those could
safely use metrics-lib from java 7.
