I've been doing this for a while without issue. I think the plan is for it
to be how our updater works, too.
Note that doing so will reset your prefs due to #3944. This sometimes
leads people to try to go the other way: copy the *old* tbb directory over
the new unzipped copy. That is definitely fail city, and will break stuff.
OTOH, we could perhaps decide that the TBB update process should
explicitly *not* preserve extensions and prefs on purpose, to avoid
fingerprinting issues.. I think that's likely to bring the fury, though.
