1. Add Tor (stable) repository. According to
https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian-vidalia.html.en.
2. sudo apt-get install tor vidalia deb.torproject.org-keyring
Tor will be automatically started. Then start Vidalia manually. Will fail.

Jun 19 18:59:07.988 [Warning] /var/run/tor is not owned by this user

wrong user?
[Warning] Before Tor can create a control socket in
"/var/run/tor/control", the directory "/var/run/tor" needs to exist, and
to be accessible only by the user account that is running Tor. (On some
Unix systems, anybody who can list a socket can connect to it, so Tor is
being careful.)

Imho it's really tricky to make it work and I haven't found documentation
regarding that use case. There are only related posts

exited-unexpectedly.
