 Instead of doing a revision request and burning a day or more on the round
 trips for that, I made some changes to this in
 https://gitweb.torproject.org/mikeperry/torbutton.git/log/?h=bug_9387_v8.

 That branch has one commit per logical change and I tried to explain and
 motivate each change in the commit message. Let me know if anything is
 unclear or you disagree with any of those changes.
