 You can't send or receive messages until the account is connected, so
 let's not worry about that for now.

 Hmm, I wonder if the stored oauth token is no longer valid.

 Can you try going to:

 Preferences > Advanced > General > Config Editor

 Search for `messenger.account.account1.options.oauth` and set that to an
 empty string.

 (The number in `account1` may differ for you. Look for the one with `prpl-
 twitter`.)

 Then try connection again.
