this looks great! certainly an improvement over the previous version,
assuming rendering performance is either similar or not a concern (i
haven't checked).
i haven't reviewed the code in details, however.
i wonder if time plots with dots could be improved... in the current
design, more frequent occurences will overlap and hide each other and
outliers will be disproportionately represented. maybe something like a
catplot would help?
