The attached
[https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/attachment/ticket/7197/setup.png
screenshot] shows a first time connection wizard written for Whonix which
could be adapted for general Tor use in terminal. Its written in bash,
using [http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/raring/en/man1/dialog.1.html
dialog] ([http://packages.debian.org/dialog debian]). Works with and
without an X-server. In the menu you can go back and forward, have sub
menus and so on. Option 1 (enable Tor) and option 8 (disable Tor) are
functional (commenting in/out DisableNetwork 1), the other functions are
textual help.
This needs some more information...
How could you imagine to solve this ticket?
First, do you regard this ticket "not having a first time connection
wizard for non-X environments" as valid issue or do you just say,
server/deb/rpm users are unsupported or its and non-issue for them?
Depending on interest, I could share the code on github and work on it
some more.
Once text/features are to your liking, it could be called a tor-setup
deb/rpm. This also needs some input how distro packagers they would accept
this. I imagine having the tor package pulling tor-bin and tor-setup,
where tor-setup must be run before Tor starts. And for those who don't
care about this setup, they just install tor-bin.
