(which is hidden by default as the slider is active) but am still thinking
about its exact behavior. E.g. do we already have custom settings if the
user changes a slider-related preference belonging to a security level
which is currently *not* chosen? I am a bit torn here and am not sure what
 users are expecting.

To answer my own question: "Yes, we do." as the user is even then not
anymore in one of the 4 user partitions made by the security slider. Thus,
this means we need to take all preferences governed by the security slider
into account when determining whether the user is in the "custom settings"
group. I think showing a warning dialog might be good as well (with the
option to turn it off) if a user changes one of these preferences just in
 case this happened accidentally.
