Yeah, package delays can be frustrating, especially when there's an 
important Tor update. I run relays on FreeBSD, NetBSD and DragonFlyBSD 
myself, and they've been pretty solid overall.

I've been building Tor from source on some of them rather than waiting 
for the packages to catch up. It's a bit more work keeping everything 
updated, but I haven't had any major issues with that approach.

I wouldn't write off FreeBSD just because of the package delays though. 
It's still a good platform for running relays in my experience.
