Do we think they are actually doing this? I've used my Yahoo account all over
the world.
The timing of this is suspect. They are now rolling out Yahoo! Mail Beta. To use
it requires accepting their new terms of service and privacy policy. The biggest
change I see is a deeper explanation of their content-based advertising. The
good news is that Yahoo is garbage anyway.
From http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html
When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address,
birth date, gender, ZIP code, occupation, industry, and personal interests. For
some financial products and services we might also ask for your address, Social
Security number, and information about your assets. When you register with
Yahoo! and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.
Yahoo! displays targeted advertisements based on personal information.
Advertisers (including ad serving companies) may assume that people who
interact with, view, or click targeted ads meet the targeting criteriaâfor
example, women ages 18-24 from a particular geographic area.
From http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/mail/beta/details.html
Yahoo! provides personally relevant product features, content, advertising,
spam and malware detection by analyzing your email. Some of these features and
advertising will be based on our understanding of the content and meaning of
your emails. For instance, we analyze email messages to identify key elements
of meaning and then categorize this information for immediate and future use.
http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/mail/atos.html
By using the Services, you consent to allow Yahoo!âs automated systems to scan
and analyze all incoming and outgoing communications content sent and received
from your account (such as Mail and Messenger content including instant
messages and SMS messages) including those stored in your account to, without
limitation, provide personally relevant product features and content, to match
and serve targeted advertising and for spam and malware detection and abuse
protection. Unless expressly stated otherwise, you will not be allowed to opt
out of this feature. If you consent to this ATOS and communicate with
non-Yahoo! users using the Services, you are responsible for notifying those
users about this feature.

Notice: Any communications to or from this account may be monitored by Yahoo!,
shared with parties they trust, and with people that need to see this them to do
their jobs.
