Considering the amount of handy phoning home Ubuntu
does out of the box, I wouldn't trust it to apply anything like
that to any/all traffic as you might expect, nor to leave any
traffic rules you set elsewhere intact, free from gratuitous
updates, etc.
When presented with a lot of overlaid bling like Ubuntu offers,
sometimes the more secure solution is to simply spend the
same amount of time learning how to admin a stripped down
Linux like Arch by hand instead. (Or whatever other OS, BSD, etc.)
That knowledge will serve you better in the long term anyways.
