Main reason is to reduce the amount of spam that makes it to the lists.  :)

With regard to the cai-committee mailing list this is restricted to members 
only and it is a private list. (it is not listed in the lists.linux.org.au 
lists). On the other hand computerbank is a public list - anyone can join and 
participate - but need to post from subbed addresses.  

Lately there has been a considerable increase in the spam mails that i have 
to reject and i would be apt to change the current policy of member only 
posting. 

What does everyone else think?
