You shoul have included what you wnat in the first message along with
introduction so it would not look like spam. But it's good that you're
not a spammer (that was my first impression).

It depends on what you think is fun. If you like playing games then
linux may not be your choice. But if you want to program them --- well,
there are plenty of games along with sources. And in latter case linux
is very good option (did you know that quake 1 source is released under
the terms of GPL?).

I would recomment to look at existing sources and make something simple
first. It definitely took a lot of time for Maxis (that's their game as
far as i know). And a lot of men (programmers are just few of them; the
rest are artists, composers and others). So it is impossible to make
something like game you mentioned here (and considering your
experience).

The best games are not necessarily the best looking ones thought they
are more pleasant to play. There were many good games in 8088/80286
times.

I would like to stress once more --- make something simple and
*complete*, with user interface (menus, options etc), sound, graphics.
I'm sure you'll learn a lot from that.

P.S. And don't forget to tell where screenshots/source of your game are
to all others who are interested. This mailing list would be quite
appropriate :)
