I don't think this will be too difficult at least if you stick to Allegro
instead of writing your own hardware access code.

If XAllegro is done right (I don't know it) you shouldn't have to care
about X at all...

Do some simple (!) demos on both platforms to get used to C and the special
things in Linux/DOS first. IMHO starting such a big project without much
experience will be very hard.

Hmm, I don't think this list should be directly on such a site, but instead
some general Linux gaming site (e.g. www.linuxgames.com)...
