Actually I don't think the point was in to install the whole package under
/usr/lib/<package>/, just the package specific lib files and
script/modules files.

Documentation, mans, binaries, include, and etc configuration information
should be somewhere else.

So there still is the problem of where to place this stuff.

Personally I still favour /usr/local/ (or /opt),  since I usually think
that all non-system specific applications should be keep out of /usr.

symlinks from some other directory in /usr/<whatever>/bin is still
important to consider.  I would think that it would have little affect on
security or preformance.

Actually reading a little bit more, the FHS also include provision for
/usr/games.


Any thought on how to extend this idea?
