[school-discuss] First Programming Language

Dear Colleagues,

Jeff Elkner teaches computer programming at Yorktown High School in Arlington,
Virginia, in the U.S. He had the same question many of you do: which computer
language is the best first language to learn? For some of you, it is decided by
a curriculum you use; for others, you have some power to decide. Jeff chose a
cross-platform language called Python. In his article for Open Source Schools
this month, he explains why and how it has led to the writing of an open source
text book, _How to Think Like a Computer Scientist_, of which he is a
co-author. This is an extremely relevant topic with an uncommonly
well-executed
