I think Joel is on to something -- a natural extension of the Web site. Per Bill's audience reminder, we need a "roll your own. We _are_ focused on education, especially, k-12, but that still leaves lots of room for variations. In the meantime, since Laura is doing something in this area right now, I suggest we host her project as a start.

Joel, this was discussed a decade ago and the issue seems to resolve thusly. If you are seeing an audience with a commonality, target an ISO/Disk towards that group. There is no such thing as a perfect set of apps.
The idea of selecting what apps will also depend on the various installers. Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu... the list goes on and there are few options that will fit all for a single disk.Just points to ponder.Bill

Yes, good idea. One great way to do this would be to get people to vote on packages that are listed on schoolforge.net. Can someone come up with a way to motivate people to do some reviews and/or rating? We need people to vote on software they know. By using the rating system, you would also help us to begin learning how to improve it. Laura and Justin have put in countless hours adding software -- you're missing out if you haven't had a look.
