[school-discuss] looking for tool that shows steps in solving algebra equations

Does anyone know of any open source tools that show step-by-step of 
simplifying and solving equations?

I see commercial software called Algebrator. And I read (but didn't test) 
a java applet at algebrahelp.com.

I am looking for something that is open source and runs on Unix (and maybe 
X11).

I don't want a tool that shows the answer, but shows the individual steps 
when given an equation.

Any suggestions?
