Ouch, I mistyped that.  I meant to say that dhcpcd is a dhcp
client.

That's an interesting idea; it sure would explain things,
although it would probably cause problems for others on the
network, too.

Make sure you do have "dhcpd" installed and do not have "dhcp"
installed.
