In the schools I've observed, they've paid abysmally, had no idea what
qualif's were needed, and had to compete with the tech industry for
applicants.  At least one of those parameters has changed...

Calling all unemployed gurus: get yer applications into the school districts
(and public sector) now!

Still, it is important at all times to remember: it's not their money.
