sci apps

During the past days off the net, I read the entire Linux Scientific
Software Guide in order to have  an  idea  to propose (to SEG) a few
packages to test, review, discuss and, finally,  hand  over  to  our
(RPM ?) + coder groups for inclusion ...

All  in  all: most tools are for development and programming.  There
are some flagships for  neural  networks,  visual data analyses.  As
for descriptions,  some  stats  and  math  packages'  GUI  could  be
improved.   I'll  have  a  leftover  486 here to test a few packages
under RedHat 5 and will propose further apps to SEGers.

Any comments welcome.
