For future reference, the workaround mentioned here works on my up-to-
date MacPorts install:

In other words:

- install gnome-icon-theme
- Create ~/.gtkrc-2.0 with the line
     gtk-icon-theme-name = "gnome"

  Invalid

Bug description:
  When launching gschem on a Mac OS X system I get an abort trap from
  GTK recent file manager.

  Here is the error output

  Gtk:ERROR:gtkrecentmanager.c:1942:get_icon_fallback: assertion failed: (retval != NULL)
  Abort trap

  It seems that there is no function to provide a default icon for the
  manger.
