I use one strand of a 22ga wire (it's about 34 ga) to wire-up all my
vias.  For through-hole parts, I just don't run traces to the
component side so I won't have to worry about soldering it.  Or, if
it's solderable, I just solder both sides.

It won't.  Solder has a very high surface tension.
