So, here's a wish list for binaries that I could use right away.

... but if your problem is missing library or version conflicts, what about partial static linking? You can easily distribute the binaries without having to worry about exotic libraries.

Yes, I think local libraries is the thing to do. This would allow reliable RPMs to be built for the major RH releases. However, I'd like to see this done as part of gEDA, with shared libraries between the various tools.
