That's a problem.  The reasons for it are historical.

I use "gwave".  There is a Ubuntu package, so you can 
just "apt-get install".

I don't use a gui, like gspiceui.  I usually run gnucap 
interactively. ...

gnucap>probe ac v(3) vds(m4) ..
gnucap>ac 20 20k dec 5 >z
gnucap>!gwave z &
