Hmm, I had wondered if it had chdir'd into a place where the relative
path we saw would work from.
What does:
grep "GEDA.*DIR" config.h
show for libgeda and gschem's build dirs?
Mine show:
#define GEDADATADIR "/home/pcjc2/geda/share/gEDA"
#define GEDARCDIR "none"
Perhaps post your config.h and config.log from libgeda
