I don't think it is something _we_ have changed, but I might be wrong.
It could be an auto* bug which has been fixed - but I'm not sure.

The only fork-bomb I've seen reported related to UTF-8 characters in the
input to some of hte gettext infrastructure. That is now fixed, but in
any case.. the issue only arose on git HEAD, not the stable-1.6 branch.

Perhaps - although it is probably too late now! Remind us before we
release 1.6.1 or 1.7.0, for example!

Longer term, it would be good to fix any usage of APIs deprecated in
guile 1.8. (Ideally for the 1.7.x series, and certainly prior to 1.8.0)
