gEDA-user: footprint attribute set to none or to unknown

Cite from the master attribute list:
/-----------------
If the symbol does not have a footprint, then the value of footprint=
should be set to none. If the footprint must be overridden in a schematic,
then the value of footprint= should be set to none. If the footprint is
not known, then the value of footprint= should be set to unknown.
\-----------------

So, what is the exact meaning of "footprint=none" ? Power symbols don't
have footprints. So the first sentence requires them to have "footprint=none".
But the second sentence implies that the value "none" is supposed to be
overridden in the schematic. In case of the power symbols this is hardly
useful.

What are the consequences of "footprint=unknown"?

The first sentence seems to imply that all symbols should contain
a footprint attribute. However, the majority of symbols in the default
library does not contain a footprint attribute at all.

IMHO, the master attribute list should tell the consequences of all
possible cases:
1) footprint=foobar
2) footprint=none
3) footprint=unknown
4) no footprint attribute at all
