Hi!

But yout statement is not true, and everybody with sufficient UNIX knowledge knows that, ven if that person does not know what gEDA might be.

However you might write:

gEDA was developed and tested on RH9, SuSE9, FC1 or FC2, so if you want to absolutely miminize the risk of problems caused by distribution incompatibilities, you might prefer to chose one of them.

And of course, you also must mention the list of installed packages (including their version) and all other adjustments done on the the development and test systems as well.

I could also instead of playing with transistor, put one ML6652 into
Ronja, and on complaints from users "minimum quantity of ML6652 costs
so much it ruins me" respond "that's your problem. Reality is a messy
thing and this is a common strategy in the commercial world."

Reality is, that you must support more than just vour specific variants of linux. I (and probably lots of other users, too) am not willing to change my OS to one of your four vavourite supported ones, just to let gEDA being able to produce 'better' documentation for dump users.

Be glad I don't complain about gEDA not running on svgalib, OS/2 pmshell
and framebuffer, and complain just about GTK+ ;-)

This thing started on PCB. When you oppose gtk, you suddenly face gschem & co. You entire argumentation agains gtk targets gschem much more than pcb.

I must admint, I really canot see any problem in two ore more closely related programs, which are used in conjunction, having a common set of requirements.
