I thought the optimizer might remove them.  They happen when the lines
and vias aren't on the same grid, such as when you have metric ICs on
an inch grid.  You could try the '/' key until it doesn't do
two-segment lines any more, since that's where they come from.  Or,
what I do is keep track of when I'm switching grids and don't put the
vias there.
