Are you asking about panelizing -- multiple copies of the same layout
on a single board? I panelize all the time.

I did get burned once by a setting in PCB that forced all refdes's
on the layout to be unique. Since then I double check the refdes'es
to make sure that PCB hasn't auto-renumbered.
