The problem with XOR is that, for a palette-based screen, you don't
know that XOR will give a visible color.  Even with truecolor visuals,
you have to be careful what you XOR with.

Maybe we should bring back the thumbnail view?  That would give us a
place to put indicators, if we draw the board there in muted colors.
