I second that.
My first attempt was to implement the circuit I designed without
'professional help' (== provide a receipe for homebrew circuits), and I
failed.
But discussing my problems with people providing professional help I
learned a lot:

Do not use solder paste in conjunction with hand soldering for 'standard
footprints' (>= 0603, SOT23 ....). Putiing some solder on one pad and
then do a kind of reflow with  the iron, soldering all pins (remove
excess solder withsolder wick) gives better results (at least for
prototypes /   low volume products). The question of exposed pads
remained open (I wasn't aware of DJ's hot plate stuff at that time).

Nevertheless I (hope to) get professionally  solderd boards next week,
