gEDA-user: Questions... pcb 20070912 preferences menu

Gang,
  I'm a very new user to pcb using version 20070912 on 
  both Ubuntu Fiesty and also on RHEL.  When I try to
  use the File -> Preferences pulldown menu, I can 
  change some items but can not close the box.  I get:

(pcb:6963): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 1911\
  (gtk_widget_destroy): assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

(pcb:6963): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkentry.c: line 3871\
(gtk_entry_get_text): assertion `GTK_IS_ENTRY (entry)' failed
  Segmentation fault

  Is this a known bug or do I have some install errors?  The
  configure/make/make install process well will with no errors
  on both machines.  The only small glitch on the Ubuntu install
  involved the non support of jpeg for gdlib.  I applied the
  nojpeg switch and pcb installed just fine.
