Currently we pick symbols for our gschem schematics.

I have to admit that I am not really happy with this approach.

When we make a schematic, we are thinking of devices first...

So maybe we should

1. Pick a device (Resistor, Diode, Transistor, OpAmp, ...)

2. Pick graphical representation of device

3. Pick available footprint

Maybe in a selector with three columns and a checkbox for spice or plain
devices?

OK, we have something like this, because we have directories for
Diodes, ... So we select (directory) Diode, then 1N4141...
But I think that in our head we select a symbol in the first step, but
maybe it should be (only) a device.

Of course this does not solve the footprint/pinout problem, so it may be
only a useless idea, with no benefit for daily work.

Best regards
