The place I once worked at used a toaster oven to re-ball used BGA's. Worked really well too!

MAX6675 http://www.maxim-ic.com/ for the temperature converter.

I use a bead thermocouple. I believe it is good to 1000 C.
I use a max 6675 to connect it to the parallel port of my
laptop. It is a cheap and effective setup.

Darrell, do you have schematic and code that you can share so we are not all reinventing the wheel?
