gEDA-user: Restricctions on the number of layers

The wiki page on the limitations of the gEDA tools said the maximum
number of layers is 8. I just changed that to 17 which is the current 
default maximum number.

I seem to recall, that the number of layers can be increased arbitrarily 
if a recompile is allowed. Is this true, or just wishful thinking?
