Re: Developer Interest: Michael Parienti (fwd)
Dear Sir/Madam,
First, we'd like to thank you for taking the time to submit an application
to be a developer for the Linux Knowledge Base Project. For the record,
this choice was not an easy one. There were over 60 applicants for what
ended up being 6 positions. People were selected on the criteria of
experience, skill, time available, and their reasons for wanting to help.
If you received this email, it means that at this time we do not currently
need your services.
We will however keep all of the applications on record for when we need
additional help in the future. Furthermore, we hope all of you in the
future will be category managers or write articles to be included in the
database. Expect additional announcements on the various news sites and
comp.os.linux.announce over the next few months as we roll out the site.
Of course you can always visit http://www.linuxkb.org/ for the latest
news.
On the other hand, many of you seemed eager to start working on articles
or translations, and you can do this whether or not we're ready for
submissions quite yet. It will take some motivation and creativity on
your part to come up with useful topics and get the documents written
without supervision, but the documents themselves will certainly be useful
in their own right. If you are interested in working on this, we
encourage you to check out the Simple End-User Linux (SEUL,
http://www.seul.org/) publications group and the Open Source Writers Group
(OSWG, http://www.linuxchix.org/techwriters/) as good fora for discussing
topics and sharing drafts.
Also, anyone who is interested in finding out more about what we're doing
or have some ideas that they'd like to share, we'd like to invite you to
join one of the linuxkb mailing lists. We have two public lists:
linuxkb-discuss - A open mailing list for discussing any aspect of the
Linux Knowledge Base Organization. We will be discussing the
current project as well as entertaining ideas for future
enhancements/services for the site. If you have any comments
about the existing site or ideas for new features we'd love to
hear them!
linuxkb-announce - A one-way moderated mailing list dedicated to
informing the Linux community about the Linux Knowledge Base
Organization. All LKBO related news including new features,
services, and their availablilty will be announced via this list.
To subscribe, send an email to:
majordomo@seul.org
and in the body put:
subscribe linuxkb-discuss
-or-
subscribe linuxkb-announce
Regards,
Aaron Turner
